One of the stories I heard on the news - nurses striking because they want security - they don't feel safe on the job. I've also seen signs inside healthcare facilities that warn against violent behavior towards the medical staff.
I know why people are losing their temper with the medical industry. Customer service is terrible. There is no accountability in the medical profession. People are being treated poorly and then handed an outrageous bill for the horrible service they just received. I can understand why people are losing their temper and foaming at the mouth!
My personal experiences with the medical world:
two year boy - sick - pediatrician told the parents that he had a virus or flu - over the weekend his fever became so bad that he was brought to children's hospital - they immediately realized that he was seriously ill - he had cancer - he died 4 years later = virus and cancer are so alike = seriously!!
middle aged woman with problems with her eyesight - eye doctor says it is a possible detaching retina = nausea and sickness comes later - urgent care tells her that she has a virus = sickness becomes worse = taken to the hospital = she has a Brain Tumor! - once again virus and brain tumor = they are so alike = NOT!
middle aged woman with a chronic sore throat = constantly going to the doctor - not taken seriously by the staff - eventually ends up in the hospital = turns out she had cancer of the throat - now she has to eat with a straw the rest of her life!
man who was in an ER - infection - once his insurance stopped paying - the hospital staff threw him out - with his medical tubes still sticking out of him - left him on the lawn outside
man who fell down a flight of stairs = went to the ER - once they saw he had no insurance the hospital staff told him that nothing was broken and he had ten minutes to get out because they needed the bed
car accident = woman jerked around by the hospital staff like a rag doll = left in a room with no medical attention - after insisting on being released - nurse yanked the needle out of her arm - blood everywhere - extreme poor treatment - and this woman had insurance! - still didn't get good service - but she got a really big bill!
elderly woman with a cut on her head from a fall in a parking lot = at the ER = left in a room for hours with no medical attention - didn't get stitches till late in the day - almost closing time - from a doctor who sneezed and coughed like he had the flu! = we all love someone coughing in our face while we get stitches on our forehead!
elderly woman who had knee surgery = doctor didn't close up the wound properly = woman in horrible pain - family complained for hours - nurses would do nothing - finally got another doctor to examine her - he realized the surgery was not done right and that was why she was in pain - he redid the surgery and fixed the mistake - she had been bleeding internally which was why she was in pain!
woman with a newborn baby = excessive crying from the baby - she complained to the nurses that something was wrong - they would not listen to her - blew off her complaints because this was her first baby - didn't take her seriously = finally she got a doctor who examined the baby - turns out the baby had a broken arm - broken coming out of the birth canal - which was why the baby was crying!
These are just some examples of medical incidents that reflect the poor service that you receive these days in the medical facilities. Hospitals and doctors' offices are like horrible airports from Hell. It is no wonder people are losing it and lashing out at the staff. I'm not surprised. I just don't understand why these medical people are surprised. Do they think everyone is going to keep taking the abuse and not say anything!
I try to avoid dealing with the medical world if at all possible these days. It is better for my blood pressure if I stay away from them.
Take care,
LK
