Elections = Are you a new contestant or an old one?

Updated: Nov 16, 2023

Every few years, we all have to go to the voting booth and pick who do we want to handle our affairs for the next few years.

You will see new names and old names. Some of the people you will recognize = these are usually people that have been in politics since the time of Elvis. Others will be new to the game.

In my mind, I have 2 thoughts during election events.

1st thought = Re-elect the current contestant = often the previous political man or woman is running again for the same position = because they want to continue their good work. Good work? That is SO debatable!! If you've seen nothing improve while this person has been in office, then you feel like that person has done nothing at all while in office. You think - "What good work are you talking about? Things around here are not great. The economy still stinks. The crime rate is a joke. The neighborhood looks terrible. Etc..." Laughably, the person on the TV is patting himself or herself on the back for doing a great job. (Yeah = right! = seriously?! = HA!)

2nd thought = new contestants = you see see names that you've never heard of before. These are new people that want to give politics a try. They want you to give them a chance to make changes in your area. It's the "give another person a try" mentality. You think - "Why do you want to join the political rat race? It isn't FUN!" Politics ages you. Politics warps you. Politics can crush you like a grape! The lure of power and money often lures people into politics. I always feel sorry for the new people, because they do NOT know what they are getting into.

Politics is a thankless job. You can't make everyone happy. Most people will hate your guts. Even your own party can turn on you at any moment.

Voting these days is extremely difficult to do. Both contestants stink. So which one do you pick? Lately, less and less of us are going to the voting polls. Why? Because we are all disgusted with our choices.

More unrest and unpleasant times are unfortunately ahead of us. You don't need a crystal ball to see it.

My suggestion = don't let the political unrest in the world get you down. Limit how much political news you watch. Things will always change. Try to stay upbeat.

Take care,

LK
