Warning! Extremes are hard on the senses!

If you are an art person or a history buff, you remember the Renaissance period. You will also remember the Abstract period that followed. Looking at both periods = you see that they were complete opposites of each other.

It's the concept of one way of thinking rebelling against the other way of thinking. Some would think that it is the new generation against the old generation. Anarchy versus Civilization.

These days, I can't help feeling like I'm living in an Abstract period right now. This current generation seems to be full of extremists that are very ANTI everything that existed in the last century.

I'm someone that likes to watch old movies. Movies with Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant in them. Comparing those days to the current time - makes me think of the Renaissance versus the Abstract.

Hepburn wore outfits that looked stunning. Her clothes matched. Her purse matched her dress. She wore gloves and a hat that went with her outfit. Her beauty was shining. She spoke like a lady and she acted like a lady. She was intelligent and well mannered. Her strong character made her stand out. She let her inner beauty shine. No matter how much she made or how successful she became = she remained herself. She didn't use gaudy outfits to be noticed. She let her real beauty show at all times = she let her true self be noticed. It showed how great a person she was. She represented the Renaissance.

Now we look at the modern woman = shopping in the local department store. She's wearing gaudy stretch pants in outrageous colors with a massive moo-moo T'shirt. Or she's wearing jeans that are so cut up and torn that they look like a weed-wacker attacked her. Or she's wearing clothes that look like sleepwear = sleeping pajamas. She's wearing flip flops or slippers. On her head is what looks like a shower cap. She's letting everything hang out and show = she's covered in various tattoos and piercings = and she's moving about the store like she's intoxicated or off her meds. She represents the Abstract period.

Grant wore suits = tailored suits = with a matching hat. He always looked clean and well-kept. Even as he grew older = he still looked good. He was a gentleman. Always dressed like a gentleman. Always looked charming and handsome. His hair was clean cut and his face shaved. He spoke well and he behaved in a good mannered way. He was positive and upbeat = he grew old gracefully = he never changed into something ugly or twisted. He represents the Renaissance.

Now we look at the modern man = coming out of the local grocery store. He's wearing old jeans and an old T'shirt. He looks like he hasn't had a bath or shower in weeks. A smell is radiating from him = smells like a garbage truck. He hasn't shaved in days. He looks like he doesn't know what a bar of soap is. He's covered in various markings that you can't make out because they blend together. His hair is either shaved, all over creation, or longer than Rapunzel's hair. He's foul mouthed, aggressive, and ill mannered. He represents the Abstract period.

Extremes = people these days just love to SHOCK the public. I'm tired of being shocked. I want to have an uneventful trip to the store. I want to look at my fellow neighbors and local people without having my eyeballs pop out of their sockets or losing my lunch. Is that too much to ask?!

What has become of us? And will it never END?

Take care,

LK
